Another challenge faced in the current education system is the increase in disparity in private and public schools (Equal Opportunity and Higher Education, 2004). Problems Concerning Equality of Opportunities in Education: Education is of great help in establishing equality and ensuring social justice no doubt. But the system of education itself can add to the existing inequalities, or at least perpetuate the same. A fundamental question in sociological research on education and a primary concern of educational policy-making is whether socio-economic equality in educational opportunities can be increased without lowering the quality of education.

Recognizing these disparities, the Obama Administration is committed to advancing equity in education. Students without access to technology are in danger of being left behind their connected peers. Unlawful discrimination would be things like: refusing to admit a child to as school as a pupil because of their race ; discouraging a female student from undertaking a course in Engineering

I label this the potential equality-quality tradeoff in education. In TT, during school closures due to covid19, the lack of equal opportunity within the education system became even more apparent. Debates about Equality of Opportunity in higher education focus not only on the under-representation of certain groups, such as racial minorities and the poor, but also on inequalities in drop-out rates and inequalities between those applying to elite institutions in the first place. DO ALL KIDS HAVE THE RIGHT TO AN EQUAL EDUCATION? A Focus on Educational Equity The notion that there should be equality of opportunity in education, where everyone has fair and equal access to a good quality education regardless of social background, race, gender or religion, and where people achieve success in education according to their efforts and ability, free of any form of discrimination, is enshrined in several International Conventions.

This is one of the very few pieces of supporting evidence for the view that selective education promotes equality of opportunity and social mobility.
